Words can't begin to describe how exhilarated i feel today. Remember that "Make-Up+ Photo shoot session giveaway" contest that we launched just last month? I received the last entry last week, and gosh, you have no idea how tough it was pouring through the entries trying to decide on the final 2 to put up for voting......A lot of the entries touched my heart, most had kind words for me, some were even 5 pages long, showing how much effort was put into it. At times, i felt like giving everyone a free make over!! :)

Anyhow, eventually i knew a decision had to be made. Small surprise though - because i simply could not decide on a final TWO, i had to resort to selecting a final THREE. Yes, 3 entries that i simply love.

Entry 2: Annie - To win this giveaway for her dad and herself

Her reasons:

This picture of my dad and I was taken 6 years ago. Now at 64 years old and long past this prime time, he is still on a job driving big truck, those gargantuan machines with 10 wheels that roar past us on the highway leaving us “shaking” is our helpless vehicles.

My siblings and I have been advising him to stop working, trying to convince him that driving under the mercy of the sun drains him both physically and mentally. We wanted him to take a back seat in work and enjoy life.

He once said to me that "The day you graduate from Uni will be my retirement day", that being the youngest in the family, I would be his last 'burden' after I am financially independent. I was on cloud nine hearing that statement and vowed to go through my exams without any failures to ensure my “financial independence” soonest.

8th August 2009 marks the day of my convocation. Yet, he did not keep to his word of retirement.

31st August 2009 welcomes my very 1st paycheck and I told him that he should really stop working, but my dad cleanly brushed it aside. He told me that with my mere fresh-grad pay, it would not be sufficient for me to have the life that I need to be a young adult in the hustling bustling city of KL.

To date, he has been, and still is that considerate, caring, and 'un-burdening' person. Born in the baby boomer generation, he is the typical strict-looking man in the family that taught his children like a school principal/disciplinary teacher. He probably smiled once in a hundred photographs, making it so difficult to find this picture of him smiling in such rejoice. This picture was taken during Chinese New Year in our hometown in Kuantan. Those 8 days were the only self-assigned annual leave days that he gave himself.

I vow to savour more of these precious moments with my dad, and document them in pictures!

Entry 3: Fooi Teng - To win this giveaway for her and her fiance

I love your idea of showing your appreciation by giving away services. I think there not many out there who are doing the same thing as you. Therefore, I have decided to support you by sending this entry!

Maybe I should start with a brief introduction of myself. I am Fooi Teng, currently based in Penang (what a lovely island!). My hometown is Klang, and I studied the same secondary school as Alvin, he is my senior. I know about you through Alvin’s facebook. Since then, I visited your facebook and blog as well, and got to know that you are a make up artist.

I visit Alvin’s and your photo album regularly, browse through the photos (especially wedding/couple shoots) to check if there is any new uploaded photos. One of the main reasons of doing so is me and my love one are planning to get marry next year! =D I am doing survey on wedding/couple shoot in order to get more ideas on how I want my own pre-wedding photos to be. Make up and hair style are the main key point for a beautiful bride, I am surveying on that as well. I always go back to your photos because I like the way you put on make up and hair-dos. It is so natural, simple and nice.

I am a person who doesn’t have good make up skill. I’ve tried some make up services (for dinner purpose) and I always got disappointed on the result. So far I never met a make up artist that makes me satisfied with the make up on my face.

I start to worry if I can’t find a good make up artist to make me look brilliant for my pre-wedding photo as well as on my wedding day. When I look at those make up done by you, I feel more relief. At least I can show to the make up artist, this is what I want! Oops, you might be wonder why don’t I just ask you to handle styling for my wedding. Well, I don’t think you would want to travel all the way to Penang just for 1 customer (I am not going to have any ceremony in Klang). If you willing to do so, it will be costly also =P. I wonder how good it would be if I can have the chance to try your styling skills and Alvin’s photography skill. If I win this free photo session, I can have a collection of nice couple shoot, by you and Alvin!

Regarding photographer’s skill, well, I am not pro in photography to comment into it. But Alvin’s photos always make me feel warm and sincere.

In summary, these are the reasons why I think I deserve for the Make up + photo shoot session:

1) Most important, I like your make up and hair-do style, natural, simple yet elegant.

2) We plan to get marry next year; it would be great if I can have a collection of nice photos of us to show to our guest, in addition to the pre-wedding photo album by bridal studio.

3) If I can have the styling done by you, I can show to other make up artist that this is what I want!

4) 10th June is my birthday, and 21st June is our 4th year anniversary. If I can win this, it would be a very special and priceless present for me, and us.

And what better way to show my appreciation and celebrate this great occasion than to give out one FREE make up and hair styling session ! And as a bonus, it will come with a FREE two-hour photo shoot session as well by Alvin Yap Photography. GOT MOJO ?

How long would you take to decide should you get an email from a super famous photographer to ask you whether you would like to dress up 2 couples for a workshop she's involved in? For me, it took me 2 seconds; One to type the word Y-E-S!, the other to click SEND. :)

For those who are on my facebook friend's list, you are probably aware by now that just this last April, i had the time of my life dressing up two gorgeous couples in a 2-day photographer's workshop/camp in Port Dickson. It was organized by a unique group of individuals of are all known photographers in their own right (in no particular order): Wiki Lee & his Wife, Ilona from Foto Expression, Alex Lam (Integricity), Grace Tan (Stories by Integricity Visuals),Jenny Sun (Jenny Sun Photography), Jon Low (Jon Low Studios) and Mark Leo (Stories by Integricity Visuals). They call themselves the Red Ninjas, and the camp was named " Got Mojo?".

When I first saw the first couple, Sonia and Reyhan, I knew i was in for a challenge. I mean, how do you make a pair who's already gorgeous look even better? Putting behind the thought that about 30 cameras will be shooting away at them soon, I shook away the pressure, picked up my brush and started to work. Thankfully, the lenses adored these two, and below are some shots of Reyhan & Sonia taken by Wiki (assisted by his wife-Ilona, Grace & Mun Tzin) . Huge thank you to Wiki for allowing me to showcase his pictures on my blog.

The sun was scorching, yet these two looked as if they were shooting in the nicest of weathers. A big kudos to Sonia and Reyhan for being such sports.

Something to add to your pre-wedding shoot checklist :)

Photographer. Checked. Make up artist and hair stylist. Checked. Wedding gown. Checked. Beautiful Location. Checked. Most of the time, these points form the entire checklist of brides preparing for their pre-wedding shoots. One crucial matter is usually left out, however. And that is - Styling.

Styling does not only mean pretty make up and fancy hair style; It means having pretty make up and fancy hair style that suits the shooting location and theme. For example, if you are aiming to achieve a vintage theme for your pre wedding shoot, and you are dressed up in a very chic short dress with 6 inch heels and edgy make up, you might initially like what you see in the mirror but once the pictures are out, you will notice something seems out of place. I think you get the picture.

It is not rocket science, yet not all of us are born with knowing the essence of proper styling. Else, stylists like yours truly would be out of their job. :) It is important to discuss with your stylist on what you want to achieve through the shoot, as well as the location, so that he/she can advise you on what attire and accessories are recommended to ensure everything is in place.

Recently, unique hairpieces have slowly become an essential piece in completing the look, and below are some of the ones that I have in my collection that have been or will be key pieces in completing the styling for my brides. By themselves, they might seem over the top at first, but trust me, putting on one of these will make a good photo look GREAT.

The miracle of eyeliner!!

An eyeliner is applied around the contours of the eye to create a variety of aesthetic illusions. Depending on its texture, eyeliners can be softly smudged or clearly defined. There are four main formulas available on the market, and each produces a different effect:

1. Liquid eyeliner is an opaque liquid that usually comes in a small bottle and is applied with a tiny brush or felt applicator. It creates a sharp, precise line.

2. Powder-based eye pencil is eyeliner in a wood pencil. It is generally available in dark matte shades.

3. Wax-based eye pencils are softer pencils and contain waxes that ease application. They come in a wide variety of intense colours as well as paler shades such as white or beige. Wax-based eyeliners can also come in a cone or a compact with brush applicator.

4. Kohl eyeliner is a soft powder available in dark matte shades. It is most often used in black to outline the eyes. It comes in pencil, pressed powder, or loose powder form.

5. Gel eyeliner can be easily applied with an eyeliner brush and it is much softer than Kohl.

Let me first introduce to you the gel eyeliner and ways to apply it in order to create the effect of a larger eye.

Gel eyeliner usually comes in Black or Brown. These two colors are the easiest colors to match with a wide range of eye shadow colors. Black gel eyeliner can be used together with blue or grey color eye shadow while brown color gel eyeliner can be use together with earth tone or brown color eye shadows. Shown above is the gel eyeliner from Beauty Maker. Beauty Maker Gel Eyeliner is water proof, soft, easy to apply and can be mixed with water. It gives the same effect as compared to other expensive branded gel eyeliners, despite its lower price.

How to use it?

Before

Step 1:
After applying the eye cream, use the brush to take up some eyeliner gel. For the first time user, please smoother the brush with your finger before using it.

Tip for first time user:
It will be easier for the first time user to mix it with a little bit of water on your hand before applying it.

Step 2:
Start from the center of your eyelid, slowly applying it towards the end of your eyelid.

Step 3:

Apply it from the right to the center of your eyelid in order to link it with the line that you had just drawn. If you want to increase the width of the eye-line, you can repeat step 2 and 3 two or three times.

Note:You can use the flat and wide headed brush to have a thicker eye-line.

After

Your eye will appear larger after applying the eyeliner, which is great because larger eyes give a more youthful appearance! We all wanna look young and pretty all the time, don't we? =)

I have been searching for a good BB cream for some time, and I am so happy to say that i have finally discovered one!

I am excited to recommend to you LEGERE UV WHITENING BB CREAM, which not only works as a liquid foundation but also functions as a sun block.... In other words, it covers your pores, eye bags and other imperfections while protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. On top of that, it offers skin whitening as well as provides oil control. Talk about multi-tasking! =)

What I really like about this particular brand is that when it is applied, I do not feel any stickiness on my face, which makes it comfortable to put on all day long. For those who sweat a lot, there is nothing to worry about as this product is water proof.

How to use it?

Use it after applying your daily skin care products. For oily skin, you can obtain the best results by applying loose powder after putting on this BB cream.

I totally recommended this to those who do not like heavy makeup, but would still want to look great!
